The coolest keyboard ever!

The Optimus Maximus KeyboardIt’s called the “Optimus Maximus” keyboard. And even the cocky name falls short in describing the true coolness of this new keyboard by Russian design studio Art Lebedev.

The optimus maximus is a true technological marvel. It features a tiny OLED screen on each key (yes, that’s a total of 113 tiny screens) that can be configured to look any way you want and change dynamically depending on what you’re doing.

Press the shift key and all the keys go uppercase. Run Photoshop and each key will automatically update to feature (with icons, animations and even QuickTime movies) so each hot-key has an image representing its function.

Have key’s you don’t use much? Set one to measure and display your CPU usage, another to display the iTunes song currently blasting through your speakers and yet another to show a watch or a calendar.

OLED keyboard

Of course, all the sweet geekiness comes with a big-boy price tag ($1,589). But hey, maybe that second mortgage on the house doesn’t sound like a bad idea after all. If the price is too much for you right now, you may want to consider the “Optimus Mini-Three”. Which has the same level of coolness as it’s big brother, but comes with just 3 configurable oled keys for just $135.

Both keyboards are now available through ThinkGeek (my favorite online store).

Ordering mine… as soon as they come out with ergonomic version! :-)

  2. @Art Quite frankly, I don’t think they will… the oled mini-screens are all one standard size (to make them replaceable if a key fails).
