Rest in peace, Randy Pausch

I was saddened today by the news that professor Randy Pausch had finally lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this Friday, July 25th 2008.

Professor Pausch (Computer science, Carnegie Mellon University) became an internet sensation when after learning about his illness and being told he had between 3 and 6 months to live, he delivered a speech in 2007 entitled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams”.

His speech, which is known around the web as “The Last Lecture” was intended for his 3 children, but delivered in front of an auditorium packed with students and professors over at Carnegie Mellon. Ever since it was posted online, it has been viewed over 3.6 million times… and for a very good reason: It is one of the most inspirational speeches ever.

If you haven’t yet heard it, take the time to do it now… it’s really worth it listening to someone so smart handing over to his audience (and to you) his life-long lessons. When you’re done watching the video, don’t forget to leave a comment at the end of the post.

Love this video dude. I watch it when I need motivation.

Here’s another one that he did on Time Management right at the end of 2007 which is also awesome.

You also might like checking out his site that he kept up until he died a month or so ago…
