No more “read more”

Using the more tag in WordPress The “read more” tag is one of the most heavily used features in WordPress. However, very few bloggers actually take the time to customize it to their benefit.

For the few blogging newbies reading this: the “read more” tag is a small snippet of code that you can use to show only excerpts of your posts in the front page of your blog. This is a very useful tool that serves two important purposes:

1) It keeps your blog’s home page neat and clean.
2) It entices your visitors to click through your to continue reading your post.

But wait, there’s more…

Trendy blogging for big traffic

Trendy blogging for big trafficOne of the quickest and easiest ways to get traffic to your blog is to actually write about stuff that people want to read. Yet, very few bloggers actually do it.

If you blog about “what’s hot” in the on-going global conversation, there’s a bigger chance for your blog to be talked about as well. Especially if you are able to provide an interesting point of view or put an interesting spin to the stories you blog about. When you talk about what’s hot, by proxy you’ll become part of the heat. :)

The good news is that even if you have a very niche-specific blog, you can benefit from this strategy. All you need to do is hunt down the stories that will resonate with your audience, or find a way to tie in a particular story to your niche.

Battle of the bloggers

Battle of the bloggersI’m talking about the Conn/Cow Controversy. Is it a publicity stunt? Is it a real competition? We’ll all find out sooner rather than later, but the fact remains that the resulting case study could turn out to be a very valuable lesson for new bloggers trying to learn how to make money online.

It all started a few days ago when Garry Conn published on his blog an exposé about of how the owner of JohnCow.com (his name is still unknown, but for clarity’s sake we’ll call him John) had listed his blog for sale at SitePoint as a publicity stunt.

MarketingFactor has launched!

Miguel Alvarez

Would you like to learn how to make money online? This brand new blog will show you exactly how to do it.

Who am I? (And why should you listen to me)

Hi. My name is Miguel Alvarez. I am a web entrepreneur from Cancun Mexico and I’ve been making a living from marketing online since the mid 90’s.

Listen, I won’t flash big checks in your face or brag about my earnings. It’s just not my style. But I will tell you this: Over the years I’ve had a lot of websites. Some have been wildly successful and are still online (like Copywriting.com or my web hosting company: ThirdSphere). Many others have failed miserably. And it is that experience that qualifies me to show you how to make money online… I know what works, but most importantly, I know what doesn’t work - and I plan to share everything with you on this blog.

Is Mark Joyner a moron?

Mark JoynerWatch out! Mark Joyner - the father of mind control marketing - has decided to make a big splash in the blogosphere. And it’s worth your time taking a good look at how he’s going to do it.

In a very bold move (typical of him), Mark is calling himself a “blogging moron” and at the same time releasing a free course about blogging. While most marketers would consider that to be suicide, I consider it to be sheer genius.

What is RSS?

RSS Reader

RSS is a content syndication technology that millions of people are using daily to quickly and easily stay up to date with their favorite websites. It is an acronym that means “Rich Site Summary”; but most people like to say it stands for “Really Simple Syndication”.

Hundreds of thousands of webmasters are setting up “RSS feeds” on their sites. These feeds allow you to receive their latest news and information by subscribing to them with an RSS reader.

Subscribing to an RSS feed is pretty much like subscribing to a magazine that is delivered to you when new information on your favorite topics is published. But instead of sending it through the mail when a new issue is ready, the articles are delivered individually to your RSS reader in digital format.
