Eye candy (volume 2)
In this second volume of the Eye Candy series, you will find five more eye-grabbing examples from my journey around the “beautiful web”. Take time to study the petite nuances that make these amazing designs stand out from the pack and figure out a way to implement them to your next design.
The UNO: One cool mashup
Is it a motorcycle? Sort of. Is it a segway? Sort of. The UNO is a one-of-a-kind vehicle that was showcased at the 2008 National Motorcycle Show in Canada.
This cool new creation was invented by an 18-year-old prodigy called Ben J. Poss Gulak. His interest and creative mojo come from growing up around his grandpa’s basement machine shop. And even without any formal training, he has devoted most of his life to fun projects like model trains, rockets and of course his masterpiece: The UNO.
According to Ben, the machine is very simple to operate (there are no controls except the on-off switch). To go forward, you simply push your body forward to tilt the UNO. To back-up, you just lean your body backwards. The farther you lean, the faster it goes (this was accomplished with custom-made computer software that reads the gyro’s input and tells the computer how much to accelerate).
Aside from it’s obvious coolness, the UNO is completely electric… so it’s as green as they come. To learn more about “tomorrow’s transportation” watch for updates at the UNO’s official site.
Eye candy (volume 1)
One of the most challenging aspects of web design is coming up with new and original ideas for their designs. Every two weeks (more often if time allows me), I’ll post some of the best web designs I find on the web. The “Eye Candy” series of posts is meant to be a visual gallery that can be used by fellow marketers, designers and developers as a source for INSPIRATION (please do not blatantly copy or rip-off these sites). Enjoy!
Nerdy furniture: The pixel couch
Here’s something you don’t see everyday. Behold “Pixel Couch”, a cool new couch designed especially for all pixel addicts out there.
Pixel Couch is a design by Cristian Zuzunaga; a graduate from the Royal College of Art in the UK, designed the fabric based on the “pixel” concept.
The couch is now being produced by a danish manufacturer (Kvadrat) and will be for sale sometime this year from Moroso - an italian concept furniture store that specializes in modern decor.
